I am honored to have been selected as a Community Advisory Committee Member of Carlsbad City Council as the Vice Chair for the 2022 - 2023 year. It is with great pride that I have been given this opportunity to help the city of Carlsbad continue to preserve the unique character and charm of the historic areas of the Village and Barrio neighborhoods. I am confident that my expertise in the design and build industry will be an invaluable asset to the City’s plan for growth while helping navigate the ever-changing state laws designed to help ease California’s housing crisis.
As a small business owner in the Village and former resident of Carlsbad I am committed to contributing all that I can to help Carlsbad City Council continue to build a positive and prosperous future for this beautiful and historic beach city.
As the historic heart of our city, the Village and Barrio represent Carlsbad’s past, its unique character, and welcoming culture. Carlsbad City Council’s community advisory committee is committed to developing new objective design standards for multifamily housing and mixed-use development in these areas. As the need for housing grows so does the need for mixed-use, commercial and industrial development, allowing locally owned, small businesses like mine to establish themselves and bring in economy.
The Village and Barrio Master Plan sets forth a vision to honor the very best of these two neighborhoods while adapting to changing community, environmental and economic needs. This plan also establishes the vision for the ideal future character and development of the two areas and sets forth the strategy or “roadmap” for achieving that vision. The Carlsbad Community Vision is made up of nine core values developed with community members and local businesses:
All of these nine core values are something I can support not only in idea but also in implementation. As a member of the San Diego Green Building Council and leader in sustainable design I have so many ideas for green development, and suggestions for reasonable measures that can be put into place to point the city toward sustainability. The mission of the SDGBC is to inspire, educate and collaborate within our community to transform the built environment toward true sustainability. San Diego Green Building Council is a community of over 250 members working together with local government to inspire, educate and collaborate with the goal of creating a better world through better buildings. We catalyze local action to meet building industry's global efficiency, climate, and resiliency goals. As a Community Advisory Committee Member serving the Carlsbad City Council I will have the unique opportunity to marry the SDGBC mission with the Carlsbad Community Vision.
