Carlsbad City Council Selects Ginger Rabe as Vice Chair for Community Advisory Committee

I am honored to have been selected as a Community Advisory Committee Member of Carlsbad City Council this coming year. It is with great pride that I have been given this opportunity to help the city of Carlsbad continue to preserve the unique character and charm of the historic areas of the Village and Barrio neighborhoods. I am confident that my expertise in the design and build industry will be an invaluable asset to the City’s plan for growth while helping navigate the ever-changing state laws designed to help ease California’s housing crisis.

As a small business owner in the Village and former resident of Carlsbad I am committed to contributing all that I can to help Carlsbad City Council continue to build a positive and prosperous future for this beautiful and historic beach city.

Designing a home or building a new structure requires our team to study building and energy codes. The California Energy Commission have released new codes that will now be implemented moving forward. Below are some of the Energy Commission Adopts Updated Building Standards to Improve Efficiency, Reduce Emissions From Homes and Businesses.

On August 11th, the California Energy Commission adopted the 2022 Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Energy Code) for newly constructed and renovated buildings. These changes are slated to be approved in December of 2021, and take effect January 1, 2023. This will allow all builders, contractors and energy professionals time to adapt and prepare for the changes.

“Buildings profoundly influence our health, environment and economy. Into the future they will use less energy and emit less pollution while still being comfortable and healthy,” said Commissioner J. Andrew McAllister, who is the lead commissioner on energy efficiency. “The 2022 Energy Code firmly pivots California’s buildings toward the clean, low-carbon technologies that are the bedrock on which our collective path forward will rest. This foundation will help the state meet its critical long-term climate and carbon neutrality goals."

The 2022 update will be submitted to the California Building Standards Commission (CBSC), which is scheduled to consider it in December 2021. If approved by the CBSC, it would go into effect on January 1, 2023, giving builders, contractors and other interested parties a year to gear up for the changes.

The 2022 Energy Code focuses on four key areas in newly constructed homes and businesses:

  • Encouraging electric heat pump technology for space and water heating, which consumes less energy and produces fewer emissions than gas-powered units.

  • Establishing electric-ready requirements for single-family homes to position owners to use cleaner electric heating, cooking and electric vehicle (EV) charging options whenever they choose to adopt those technologies.

  • Expanding solar photovoltaic (PV) system and battery storage standards to make clean energy available onsite and complement the state’s progress toward a 100 percent clean electricity grid.

  • Strengthening ventilation standards to improve indoor air quality.

San Diego Power Woman Awards 2020

Last night was such a fun night. I was honored with an award from Discover Magazines for one of San Diego’s Power Woman. I’ve worked very hard for the career I have as well as being part of the community and I’m so appreciative to be honored. But the best part was getting to spend the evening with my family and my best friends. To read the article go by the Media Page.

We finally have found a space that is just perfect for us and you. We will soon be moving our offices to a quaint space in the village of Carlsbad (pictured here). We will be taking over the space soon and then the remodel will start. We hope to be fully open by December of this year. We can not wait to share more with you.

Lets Meet: Ginger Guest Speaks

I had a great week giving a class on designing your kitchen and what to expect. I loved meeting everyone and giving a few tips to deal with construction. I also had the best time being a guest speaker at Palomar College for the interior design class. I was so excited to speak for my past college professor, who taught me how to draw properly so long ago. I spoke about starting a business and getting into the industry. I have a lot of dos and don’ts and what to expect tips I gave. The reason for owning a business and going out and getting what you want. We spoke about the importance of writing a solid contract and learning basic construction. The class was great and they listened to me ramble on for 2 hours. It was fun to give back a little knowledge and teach our next generation of interior designers. So a very big thank you to Jessica for having me, and to the students at Palomar College. We hope a little of what we said will help you for all your future endeavors.
